Sylvester’s “Dance Disco Heat’s” Nice Lady

The intro to Sylvester’s 1978 hit song “Dance (Disco Heat)” features a short conversation between Sylvester and a very nice lady with whom he strikes up a conversation in a disco.

Dig:

The conversation goes exactly like this:

Sylvester: Got a match?

Nice woman:  Um-hm.

Sylvester: This is a fabulous club.

Nice Woman: I’m tellin’ ya.

Sylvester: Look at all the fabulous people. Ya wanna dance?

NIce Woman: Yes, I’d love to.

Sylvester: Let’s party a little bit.

Nice Woman: All right!

This post is a tribute to this awesome woman.

Forget that she is smoking indoors. Forget that the match she has for Sylvester is more than likely not of the romantic kind.

Instead, admire her openess. Bask in her warmth. Take comfort in knowing that she responds so attentively to Sylvester, not only offering him a match but also engaging in conversation with him and then dancing with him.

She’s up for anything. You don’t have to twist her arm, unless it’s part of the dance. And she’s a very easy and agreeable dance partner.

I imagine the two of them will become very good friends. She’s good for him, and anybody else. You can feel her positive energy.

A woman like this goes beyond the fag-hag who loves the nightlife in the disco-round. She’s alive, and happy to be there, and not judging Sylvester or waiting for somebody better to come along.

She’s upbeat and engaged in Sylvester’s pontifications, responding in kind.

It could not have gone so well for Sylvester. He could have been shot down, ignored, judged. Not with this woman, though.

She agreed to dance with Sylvester with no hesitation. No coyness. No attitude. The milk of human kindness flows through her veins. She’s a tiny oasis of heartfelt empathy in a very noisy and fabulous disco.

I truly hope she found her soulmate that night or very soon after. I hope the man she was looking for was also looking for her. And I hope he treats her right, because she deserves it.
